In the 'old days' making videos to market or promote your service, staff, organisation or even yourself was not easy. However, with the range of apps that are now available what used to be almost impossible is now very easy and straightforward. Unlike most of the videos that I put up onto the wiki, these are not in alphabetical order, but in order of the way in which you might decide to produce your videos. Of course, they can be viewed in any order that you wish!

The equipment you need.

This first video is a slight oddity in that it's not about an app, it's about the tools that you use to help you make good quality videos. However, I've kept it short so it's a quick view!

If you want to view the video directly on YouTube, it's available at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r071VPxwgtI

Intro Lite

The first part of any video that someone will view is going to be the introduction. Intro Lite is a great little program that will produce the introduction for you within a matter of seconds. Once you have the introduction just right you can then export this and pop it directly into other video programs.

If you want to watch this directly on YouTube it's available at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0ulS1NATlU

If you want to download this app and use it to create your own introductions, it's available at:

iOS https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/intro-designer-lite-create/id488748114?mt=8

Android : There isn't a version for the Android, but there are lots of alternatives at http://appcrawlr.com/app/related/428994

Parrot Teleprompter

It's always advisable to work out what you're going to say in your movie before you actually say it. You might want a full rehearsed script, or you might just want to have a few key points and ideas to prompt you at just the right moment. The Parrot Teleprompter does the job perfectly. The website is available at https://parrotteleprompter.com/ although this is more for the equipment that they are selling, rather than for the app itself.

if you want to watch this on YouTube it's at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cyqr2492YE

If you want to use this yourself, you can download it at

iOS https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/parrot-teleprompter/id1010384663?mt=8

Android https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.parrotteleprompter.app&hl=en

iMovie

Once you've got your introduction set up, your words clear in your head, you then have to shoot the video on your device. When you've done that, it's time to bring it into the editing studio to polish it and round off the corners. There are several tools that will do this for you, and a good one, that's designed for the iPhone and iPad is iMovie. If you want to get an overview of the product, visit the website at http://www.apple.com/mac/imovie/ This is one of the few tools that I have reviewed and discussed which is paid for, but it's currently only £3.99 which is an excellent price for such an advanced tool.

If  you want to watch this on YouTube, point your browser at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Bc2Gs178ZU

If you want to download it, it's available at

iOS https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/imovie/id377298193?mt=8&v0=www-us-ios-imovie-app-imovie

Android Since iMovie is specifically produced for the iPhone and iPad and the Mac, there isn't an Android version. However, there are plenty of alternatives and 5 good ones are listed at https://www.iskysoft.com/video-editing/top-imovie-for-android.html

Magisto

The website is available at https://www.magisto.com/ The app is simplicity itself to use. Choose your images, video and music, and Magisto will put it all together for you into a neat professional looking package.

Want to see this on YouTube instead? Visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jl9_48J2laI

If you want to download the app you can get it from

iOS https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/magisto-video-editor-movie/id486781045?mt=8

Android https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.magisto&hl=en

Periscope

This is a Twitter owned product, and they are now concentrating on this having shuttered the Vine app.

If you'd like to watch this on YouTube it's available at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzvT9NnsnCk

You can visit the Periscope home page and see the broadcasts that are currently available at: https://www.periscope.tv/

If you want to download the iOS version it's available at https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id972909677?mt=8

If you want to download the Android version it's available at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tv.periscope.android

A Windows mobile version is available at http://periscopeapps.com/periscope-for-windows-phone/

Videorama

This is an alternative to iMovie, and the website is at http://www.apperto.com/videorama/

If you'd like to watch this on YouTube, it's available at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QsfNDV8FbKo

You can download the app at

iOS https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/videorama-video-editor-movie/id1049690233?mt=8

Android There isn't an Android version available, but a list of alternatives are at http://alternativeto.net/software/videorama/?platform=android

Vine

Vine is to video production as Twitter is to essay writing. That is to say, they both take the short form and have made it their own. Vine creates 6 second videos which wrap around so that you can watch them several times. The website for Vine is at https://vine.co/ and you can view lots of examples there, and they really showcase peoples imagination and ingenuity.  An example of one of mine showing Rusty running around:

PLEASE NOTE THAT TWITTER HAS NOW SHUTTERED THE VINE APPLICATION, SO IT'S NO LONGER AVAILABLE. HOWEVER, EXISTING VINES CAN STILL BE VIEWED. I'LL LEAVE THE VIDEO IN PLACE FOR REFERENCE PURPOSES RATHER MORE THAN ANY PRACTICAL USE. If you want to create videos, I'd suggest using the Periscope application.

Clips

This is an app that's been produced by Apple specifically for iOS devices, and it's a simple way of creating short movies, if you don't want to delve into the whole process of creating more complicated material using something like iMovie.

If you want to view this online it's available at YouTube at https://youtu.be/OJiJFVnNTV0

The Clips website is available at http://www.apple.com/clips/ if you want more information on it.

You can download it at https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/clips/id1212699939?v0=www-us-clips-app

If you're an Android user you obviously can't use the app, but there are some alternatives that you might want to try out. I haven't used them myself, but will try them out in the future and add videos.

And don't forget Magisto mentioned above!
